Argentine Islands

Argentine Islands
Location of the Argentine Islands

The Argentine Islands () are a group of islands 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Petermann Island and 4 miles (6 km) northwest of Cape Tuxen, in the Wilhelm Archipelago off the Antarctic Peninsula. Discovered by the French Antarctic Expedition, 1903–05, under Jean-Baptiste Charcot, and named by him for the Argentine Republic in appreciation of that government's generosity and kindness to his expedition. The British Graham Land Expedition under John Riddoch Rymill was based in the Argentine Islands in 1935 and conducted a thorough survey of them.
